Starting in late 2025, ServiceNow made CIS-Data Foundations a mandatory prerequisite for seven CIS certifications: ITSM, Discovery, HAM, SAM, Service Mapping, SIR, and VR. If you plan to take any of those seven exams, you must pass CIS-DF first. If you already hold one of those certifications, you must pass CIS-DF by December 31, 2026 or your existing certification expires. The first CIS-DF attempt is free through June 30, 2026. After that, the exam costs $450. Seven CIS certs are not affected: CSM, HRSD, FSM, SPM, TPRM, Event Management, and GRC/IRM.
All ServiceNow certification exams run through Pearson VUE. You register and pay through ServiceNow University, then schedule through Pearson VUE. You can take the exam at a test center or online from home. Online proctoring requires a built-in webcam (no external camera needed). Exam vouchers no longer exist. After registration, you have 90 days to schedule and complete the exam.
Not anymore. ServiceNow announced that completing official training courses is no longer mandatory for sitting any mainline exam. The courses are still recommended, and many of them are free on ServiceNow University, but if you already have the knowledge, you can skip the course and register for the exam directly. This applies to all mainline certifications including CSA, CAD, CIS-DF, and all CIS specializations.
